Companies and identifiers

How to refer to a company in requests.

The company parameter accepted by most endpoints is deliberately flexible so that you can pass whatever identifier you already have. All matching is case-insensitive. The resolver tries, in order:

  1. Nordic exact match against Helsinki and Stockholm issuers: LEI (549300A0JPRWG1KI7U06), ticker (FSKRS.HE), official name ("Fiskars Oyj Abp") or name.
  2. US exact match against SEC filers: ticker (AAPL), name or display name ("Apple Inc."). Punctuation is ignored, so "D.R. Horton" finds HORTON D R INC /DE/.
  3. Fuzzy match, only when both exact lookups miss: brand aliases and partial names ("Neste", "Apple", "60 Degrees Pharma").

Nordic issuers win a tie: a Nordic ticker is never shadowed by a US filer with the same string.

CIK (0000320193, leading zeros optional) is accepted by the endpoints that look US issuers up directly: financials, statement, compare and revenue geography. Profile and filings search do not resolve a CIK; pass the ticker instead. ISIN is not supported as an input.

When an input matches several companies equally well, the resolver picks the strongest match rather than failing. If the result looks wrong, retry with a more specific identifier: the ticker, or the LEI for a Nordic issuer.

Best practice

  • For production pipelines, store an unambiguous identifier once you have confirmed the right company: the ticker (returned for US issuers and on screen results) or, for Nordic issuers, the LEI or ticker. Re-use it on subsequent calls instead of a free-text name.
  • For ad-hoc tooling, fuzzy names are convenient.
  • When you need to be 100% sure (e.g. compliance contexts), pass the ticker for US issuers and the LEI or ticker for Nordic issuers.

Display names

display_name is the friendly form rendered on the Clarifo web app (e.g. "Fiskars Oyj Abp"). company_name may instead be the filing-normalised key (e.g. "fiskars") or, on the financials endpoint for Nordic issuers, simply the identifier you sent. Always prefer display_name for user-facing output.
