Visual Cards: turn filings into shareable charts
How to create Visual Cards in Clarifo: write a prompt, pick sources, see what you can do with them, edit the cards and export them as PNG or an editable PowerPoint deck.
Visual Cards turn a company's reported figures into a short, designed card story: a cover, a few charts and the key message, ready for a report, a presentation or LinkedIn. Every card is built from filings Clarifo has indexed, so the numbers can be traced back to the source.
This guide shows how to create a card story, what you can use it for, and how to edit, export and share the result.

Create your first card story
- Open Visual Cards Studio
Open a workspace and choose Visual Cards from the quick actions on the dashboard. It opens Visual Cards Studio, where new stories are started and saved ones are listed.
- Describe the story
Type the company and the topic into the box, which asks Which company or topic should the cards cover? One company and one clear topic per story works best.
- Choose the sources
Search sources grounds the cards in Clarifo's library of annual and interim reports. My sources uses only documents and analyses you pick from your workspace, and the prompt becomes optional.
- Set the card count
Leave Card count on Auto to let Clarifo size the story to the material, or pick 1, 4, 6 or 8 cards.
- Generate the cards
Press Generate cards, or Ctrl + Enter (Cmd + Enter on a Mac). Studio shows the progress: Finding sources, Extracting figures and themes, Laying out the cards.
- Edit and export
The story opens in the editor. Adjust anything you like, then download the cards as images or a PowerPoint deck. The story is saved to the workspace library automatically.
Write a prompt that produces good cards
The prompt decides what Clarifo searches for, so name the company, the period and the angle. A few prompts that work well:
- One company, one story. For a peer comparison, write a separate prompt per company or use an industry analysis as the source.
- Multi-year metric requests such as revenue 2015–2025 are charted straight from Clarifo's structured financial data, which gives the cleanest trend charts.
- Write in the language you want the cards in. A Finnish prompt produces Finnish cards.
- If Studio replies Not enough content found for this topic, the filings did not cover the question well enough. Make the prompt more specific or pick a different period.
Where the numbers come from
Clarifo runs a semantic search over the company's filings for your topic and passes only the matching passages to the model, with the instruction to use figures that appear in that text. When Clarifo also holds structured financial data for the company, a revenue trend chart is built from that database rather than from generated text. The same filing search is described in the search guide.
What you can do with Visual Cards
A card story takes the work of reading a filing, picking the numbers that matter and designing a page, and does it in minutes. The result is a set of finished, consistent cards you can use wherever you would otherwise build a chart by hand.
Share results the day they are published
Turn a quarterly report into a short card story for LinkedIn, X or an internal channel: the headline figure, the trend behind it, the segment mix and what to watch next. Square, portrait and 9:16 formats fit social feeds, and dark high-contrast and collage looks are built for earnings-season posts.
Put charts and key messages into reports and decks
Drop cards into a report, an investor memo or a client presentation, or export the whole story as an editable PowerPoint deck with the card copy in the speaker notes. You get a designed cover, clean trend charts and a clear message per slide without opening a design tool.
Explain a company or a trend
Tell a company's story in type, image and sequence: a turning point as dated steps, a business split into segments, a multi-year revenue or margin trend, a profile in annual-report style. Cards work well as the visual layer of an analysis or an article.
Compare and benchmark
Rank peers or segments, show year-on-year changes side by side, or place several metrics on one time axis. The same story can show where a company stands and how it got there.
Turn your own work into cards
A report you are writing, a finished analysis or a set of documents in your workspace can be summarised into cards with one click, and your own assistant can create them through the MCP server. Cards stay linked to the document or analysis they came from.
Why use Visual Cards
- Traceable numbers. Every card is built from filings Clarifo has indexed, and trend charts are drawn from structured financial data where it exists, so figures are not made up and can be checked against the source.
- Design is handled. Clarifo picks a layout for each card from more than 50 designed templates, covering charts, single key figures, quarterly reporting, process and editorial stories, collage and social formats. You can switch a card's template at any time.
- Fast first draft, full control. A story takes minutes to generate, and everything on a card remains editable: text, charts, images, colours and the order of the cards.
- Ready for the channel. Export as PNG or JPEG, as a PowerPoint deck, or copy an image to the clipboard, in the aspect ratio your channel needs.
- Your language. Cards are written in the language of your prompt.
Edit the cards
The editor saves automatically. Switch between Focus, one card at a time, and Canvas, all cards side by side with zoom. Each card has four tabs:
| Tab | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Template | Switch the card to another template. |
| Content | Edit the headline, lede, figures and key points. |
| Chart | Change the chart, or use Generate chart from data to pull a chart from Clarifo's financial data or filings. |
| Elements | Add text boxes and images, and change the background, ink and accent colours. |
- Double-click any text on the card to edit it in place, then drag, resize or restyle it.
- Regenerate this rewrites a single card. You can add an instruction such as add a chart.
- Add card offers four starting points: Create with AI, Pick a layout, Write it yourself or Get a chart from data.
- Cards can be duplicated, reordered, deleted or excluded from the story with Use card.
- Images can be uploaded or generated.
- Undo and redo work across all edits. Regenerating the whole story asks for confirmation first.
Cards from documents and analyses
You don't have to start in Studio. A report you are writing in the workspace editor, or a finished analysis, can be turned into cards with the Visual Story button in the editor header or in the analysis view. Those cards are saved with the document or analysis and appear in the Studio library under From documents and From analyses. Any saved story can be reused with Use as base. See the workspace guide for how documents and analyses are organised.
Export and share
| Option | Details | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Download PNG / JPEG | The current card, or every card with Download all cards. | Pro |
| PowerPoint deck (.pptx) | Editable native text boxes, with the card copy in the speaker notes. | Pro |
| Copy image | Copies the card to the clipboard for pasting into a document or chat. | All plans |
| Aspect ratio | 1:1, 4:5, 4:3, 9:16 or 16:9: square and portrait for social feeds, 16:9 for slides. | All plans |
When cards are attached to a published document, readers can open it as a card story and share it to X or LinkedIn.
Create cards from Claude or another AI assistant
If you use Clarifo through the MCP server, your assistant can create cards too. The
get_visual_cards_guide tool returns the authoring guide, and generate_visual_cards renders
the cards the assistant writes with the same templates, returning one PNG per card and a link
that opens the story in Clarifo. Setup is covered in the
developer guide and on the MCP page.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the numbers on the cards come from?
From the companies' own filings. Clarifo searches the annual and interim reports for the topic and instructs the model to use only figures that appear in those passages. Where Clarifo holds structured financial data for the company, trend charts are drawn from that database rather than from generated text.
How many cards does one story have?
On Auto, usually four, and up to about ten when the source material is rich. You can also pick 1, 4, 6 or 8 cards, and add, duplicate or remove cards afterwards in the editor.
Can I make cards from my own documents?
Yes. Switch the source to My sources and pick the documents or analyses in your workspace. The cards are then grounded only in the sources you selected.
Which export formats are available?
PNG or JPEG images one at a time or all at once, and a PowerPoint deck (.pptx) with editable text boxes. Cards can be exported in 1:1, 4:5, 4:3, 9:16 and 16:9. Image and PowerPoint downloads are part of the Pro plan; copying a card image to the clipboard works on every plan.
In which language are the cards written?
In the language of your prompt. A Finnish prompt produces Finnish cards; otherwise the cards follow the language of the Clarifo interface.
Can I create Visual Cards from Claude or another AI assistant?
Yes. The Clarifo MCP server has a generate_visual_cards tool that renders cards with the same templates and returns one PNG per card plus a link to view the story in Clarifo.
