Financial research in Claude: 10 prompts with sourced figures

Ten copy-ready prompts for financial research in Claude, grouped by task, each returning figures linked to the filing. Real results shown for Nvidia and Nokia.

Financial research in Claude returns sourced figures when each prompt names a company, an explicit period and the source you expect, and Claude has a filing data tool to call. Below are 10 prompts that do that, grouped by task, with real results for two of them.

All prompts use Clarifo, our financial data product for US and Nordic listed companies, which runs as a built-in app in Claude through MCP. The examples start with US companies, NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) among them, and end with Nokia Oyj (Nasdaq Helsinki: NOKIA) to show how the same prompts work for a Nordic issuer reporting under IFRS.

Financial research in Claude: what makes a prompt return sourced figures

Claude chooses a tool based on the question. A vague question ("how is Nvidia doing?") can be answered from general knowledge; a specific one ("Nvidia's revenue for its latest fiscal quarter, with the 10-Q") makes Claude call a data tool and cite the result. Three habits help:

  • Say "using Clarifo" so Claude answers from our data rather than a web search.

  • Name the period, or ask Claude to state the period end date when you say "latest".

  • Ask for the source: the filing, and the page or section for text.

Prompts 1–3: latest reported results

1. Using Clarifo, give me Nvidia's revenue, gross profit, operating income, net income and diluted EPS for its latest reported fiscal quarter and the same quarter a year earlier. State each period end date and link the 10-Q.

2. Using Clarifo, show Microsoft's income statement for its last fiscal year, line by line, with the 10-K it comes from.

3. Using Clarifo, which S&P 500 companies reported results in the last seven days, and which of them grew revenue the most? Name the base you are counting from.

Prompts 4–6: trends, segments and peer comparisons

4. Using Clarifo, chart Nvidia's annual revenue and operating income for the last five fiscal years, with the filing for each year.

5. Using Clarifo, compare Nvidia, Microsoft and Apple on revenue, operating margin and net margin for their latest fiscal year. Note that their fiscal years end in different months.

6. Using Clarifo, show Nvidia's revenue by reported segment for the last eight quarters, from the XBRL segment data in its filings.

Prompts 7–8: reading the filing text

7. Using Clarifo, search Nvidia's latest 10-K for the risk factors about customer concentration and export controls. Quote each passage and link the section.

8. Using Clarifo, find the outlook Nvidia gave in its latest earnings release (8-K) and quote the guidance sentences with the source.

Prompts 9–10: a Nordic company under IFRS

9. Using Clarifo, summarise Nokia's Q3 2026 interim report: net sales growth, reported and comparable operating margin, and reported and comparable diluted EPS. Cite the page for each figure.

10. Using Clarifo, compare Kone and Nokia on net sales and operating margin for the last four quarters, in euros, with the interim report page for each figure.

Nordic companies publish interim reports as PDFs, so citations for prompts 9 and 10 point to a rendered page of the report rather than an SEC section.

Real results: Nvidia Q2 FY2027 and Nokia Q3 2026

Below are the answers to prompts 1 and 9 as of 28 October 2026. Nvidia's fiscal year ends in late January, so its latest reported quarter was the second quarter of fiscal 2027, the three months ended 26 July 2026.

The first table shows prompt 1's answer: Nvidia's latest quarter next to the same quarter a year earlier.

Nvidia (USD millions unless stated)Q2 FY2026 (ended 27 Jul 2025)Q2 FY2027 (ended 26 Jul 2026)

Gross profit33,85372,142
Operating income28,44063,734
Net income26,42259,688

Revenue roughly doubled year on year: $96,221 million against $46,743 million, an increase of about 106% (our calculation from reported figures). The answer also gave an operating margin of 66.2% for the latest quarter, computed from the same 10-Q.

The second table shows prompt 9's answer for Nokia, taken from the Q3 2026 interim report, which compares the quarter ended 30 September 2026 with Q3 2025.

The gap between the two columns is the point of asking for both. Nokia's report says reported operating profit was EUR 196 million, or 3.8% of net sales, against EUR 252 million in Q3 2025, and attributes the lower reported margin to accelerated restructuring and integration costs, while the comparable operating margin rose 220 basis points to 11.7%.34 A prompt that asks only for "operating margin" could return either figure.

Nordic companies often present both reported (IFRS) and comparable or adjusted measures. Ask for both and for the page, and the answer will show which is which.
