Park Aerospace Corp · Q2 2026 · Reported 08 Oct 2026 · US

Park’s quarter was stronger than the headline sales growth alone suggests: higher military and commercial sales improved overhead absorption and mix, helping operating income rise faster than revenue. The main caveat is that cash generation remains modest relative to earnings because working capital rose ahead of expected growth.

Military and commercial sales, not a one-off, drove the quarter

Net sales rose 26.9% to $20.8 million in the quarter, primarily driven by higher sales in the military and commercial markets, partially offset by lower sales in general aviation 5. Reported sales were also reduced by $0.9 million of tariff refunds passed back to customers after Park received refunds from U.S 8-K. Customs and Border Protection 156.

That matters because the tariff item did not manufacture the gross profit improvement. Management said the sales reduction was wholly offset by a reduction in cost of goods sold from the tariff refunds received, which suggests the quarter’s underlying improvement came from higher sales and product mix rather than an accounting benefit 1.

Margin expansion was operational, with SG&A held in check

Gross profit rose 39.5% to $7.13 million and gross margin improved to 34.3% from 31.2% 25. Management attributed the margin gain primarily to higher sales volume, which improved leverage of fixed overhead costs, and to a more favorable product mix 257.

Cost pressure did not disappear. Park cited higher labor costs, and elsewhere pointed to higher salaries and fringe benefits, utilities and shipping supplies within overhead, while SG&A still increased 5.8% to $2.4 million on higher freight, incentive compensation, IT, shareholder, professional-fee and trade-show costs; even so, SG&A fell to 11.6% of sales from 13.9%, helping operating income rise 66.3% to $4.73 million 57.

Below operating income, interest income and tax items boosted net earnings

Net income increased 88.6% to $4.53 million, faster than operating income, because below operating income Park had a large increase in interest and other income to $839,000 from $390,000 5. Management said that increase was primarily due to higher cash and investment balances driven by the $50 million at-the-market stock offering program across fiscal 2026 and the second quarter of fiscal 2027, along with higher returns on cash and investments 8.

The tax rate also helped. Park’s effective tax rate was 18.6% versus 25.7% a year earlier, and the company said the current-quarter provision included a discrete tax benefit of $430,000 from stock option exercises; absent those benefits, the rate would have been above the 21% U.S. statutory rate because of state and local taxes and liabilities 89.

Liquidity is ample, but working capital is absorbing more of the earnings

Cash and marketable securities increased to $114.7 million from $89.4 million, supported mainly by $26.3 million of net proceeds from share issuance under the at-the-market program in the quarter 8-K12. Park also said its financial resources are sufficient for at least the next 12 months and for the foreseeable future, including its planned new Tulsa composites manufacturing and development facility with an expected cost of approximately $65 million 16.

The weaker point is cash conversion. For the first six months, operating cash inflow was $1.3 million against net earnings of $8.1 million, with management attributing the drag to working-capital build: accounts receivable rose 35% on sales timing, inventories rose 21% to support expected growth in the remainder of fiscal 2027, and other assets increased because of a long-term supplier advance paid in May 2026 8-K1013.

What to watch next

  • Whether inventory built for expected growth in the remainder of fiscal 2027 converts into sales without further stretching working capital 13.

  • How much of future profit growth continues to come from operating improvement versus higher interest income on ATM-raised cash balances 2812.

  • Execution and cash commitments around the Tulsa facility and the remaining ArianeGroup advance payable in the third quarter of fiscal 2027 4161718.
