SoFi Q3 2026: Member Growth Meets Credit and Funding Risk

SoFi reported $1.4B net revenue, $241M net income and 17.1M members in Q3 2026. What the results reveal about sustainable profitability.

SoFi Technologies, Inc.: SoFi's third quarter looked strong from a growth perspective: quarterly net revenue reached about $1.4 billion, net income was $241 million and its member count grew 35% to 17.1 million. But digital banking is not a pure software-subscription model. Its earnings also depend on funding costs, credit performance and how loans are originated, funded and transferred.1

The figures behind the headline

SoFi reported GAAP net revenue of $1.385099 billion and GAAP net income of $240.989 million for the September quarter. It also presented adjusted net revenue of $1.371124 billion and adjusted EBITDA of approximately $470 million. The adjustment in this quarter lowered rather than raised the revenue figure, illustrating why the labels should never be treated as synonyms.1

The investor release contains a longer quarterly GAAP net revenue table, allowing a consistent comparison from Q4 2024's $697 million to Q3 2026's $1.385 billion. This gradual trajectory is more informative than the single statement that members increased 35% to 17.1 million, because customer growth can coexist with changes in interest rates, product mix and lending spreads.1

What the company actually reported

The figures below come from the October 27, 2026 results. A metric defined by management is not automatically identical to a GAAP income-statement line, and guidance should not be presented as realized performance.1

More members are useful only if product economics hold

SoFi reported 26.7 million products, up 44% year over year. That growth may support cross-selling and customer retention, but reported member and product counts are operating metrics rather than a direct reconciliation to net income.1

The company also presented adjusted EBITDA of approximately $470 million. Analysts should separately retain the $241 million GAAP net income figure and use the release's reconciliation to understand why the two measures differ. Excluding costs does not make them economically irrelevant.1

The funding and credit cycle is the larger uncertainty

Consumer loan performance can change as unemployment and interest rates move. Deposit pricing, loan yield, charge-offs, credit reserves and the mix of loans held versus sold can all affect profitability.

SoFi introduced 2027 guidance for $6.4 billion of adjusted net revenue and $2.24 billion of adjusted EBITDA. Guidance makes a forward case visible, but it is not a substitute for checking portfolio performance and cash generation as the lending book expands.1

Compare GAAP and non-GAAP figures using the company's reconciliation. Keep changes in segment definition, billing schedules, cash collection and period-specific adjustments visible rather than smoothing them away.

What the accounting disclosures add

Member count is a distribution indicator, not the amount of revenue recognized. Total products rose to 26.7 million, but customer activity, balances, funding costs and default risk all determine the resulting economics. SoFi is not comparable to subscription software on an ARPU basis without controlling for deposits, loan receivables and credit loss provisions.1

The $241 million net income headline is positive, but financial companies can earn interest income while using cash to originate loans. A negative or unusual cash-flow-statement movement is therefore not interpreted exactly as it would be at a manufacturing company. The reader should focus on interest margin, deposits and loan-credit performance together.1

The limits of the comparison

The Clarifo US quarterly dataset did not expose Q3 2026 GAAP net revenue reliably for SoFi, and an earlier field labelled revenue showed only a partial income component. This is a data-taxonomy limitation, not evidence the company's $1.385 billion figure is wrong. The series here is taken from SoFi's official multi-quarter IR reconciliation.1

GAAP net revenue differs from adjusted net revenue and component interest lines. Series is taken from SoFi's original IR quarterly disclosure because Clarifo's standardized Q3 2026 revenue field was unavailable.1

These are net income after tax, not adjusted EBITDA. A lending business still requires a separate credit-risk and funding analysis.

What investors should measure next

Watch deposits and funding costs, delinquency and charge-off trends, adjusted-to-GAAP reconciliations and revenue per member. Growth rates alone cannot establish that credit risk is appropriately priced.

The question is active in investor conversations on Reddit. These opinions helped identify a useful angle; they are not the evidence behind the figures. For source-backed historical comparisons, see SoFi Technologies, Inc. on Clarifo and the original results.

One quarter offers a snapshot, not a valuation verdict. A stronger decision process compares several quarters, identifies any change in reporting definitions and distinguishes accounting profits from cash generation. Where management has issued an outlook, changes in the next release should be compared with the actual results rather than with social-media price expectations.

Reported GAAP net revenue was $1.385 billion, rounded to $1.4 billion in the headline. Adjusted EBITDA is not GAAP net income or cash flow.1
